1 in 4 womxn and 1 in 2 Black womxn have a loved one in prison or coming home from prison. We carry the invisibilized weight, pain and isolation of living and loving under the carceral state. At the same time, we are linchpins of families, expert navigators of complex systems, and bring an unwavering power, joy and fight for our loved ones’ freedom.
We’re gathering womxn with an incarcerated or formerly incarcerated loved one for 2 days to build belonging and power through art. Creating art is not just an aesthetic game — it is a method of healing and cultural preservation. When we create art in community, we break isolation, tell our stories and cultivate our imaginations so we can shape future possibilities together. We lighten the burden of our shared survivorship to a connected and collective strength.
