Community Impact Fellowship – FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Program

Who is eligible to apply?

Eligible candidates will be high-potential leaders with a demonstrated commitment to the Rainier Valley community and a career in social justice. The program seeks to diversify the leadership pipeline in the philanthropic sector; candidates will come from communities that are underrepresented in philanthropy, particularly communities of color.

Is this a paid fellowship?

Yes. This is a full-time employment fellowship. Compensation and benefits will be provided by the RVC and will not vary between organizations.

Am I eligible to become a fellow if I am not from the Rainier Valley?

Yes. Candidates from outside the Rainier Valley are welcome to apply. However, applicants will need to demonstrate a connection and commitment to the community in this region.

What is the length of the fellowship?

The fellowship length is two years.

Will I be guaranteed a job at my host foundation or another foundation after the fellowship?

No, but we are committed to providing all of the professional development support we can to each fellow. This will include post-fellowship job search support and resources.

Do I need prior experience working with a non-profit organization?

Yes. Applicants should have at least four years of dedicated years of work, academic, and/or volunteer experience in the nonprofit sector. Our hope is to increase the number of people of color that have professional experience running a non-profit. This would be a great professional leadership program to enhance your understanding of social justice and community organizations.

What if I am not selected? Can I apply again?

Yes. We anticipate having more qualified candidates than we do spots to fill.

Will help be available for me when I apply to this fellowship?

We are happy to answer questions about the program before you submit an application. However, to maintain a level playing field for all applicants, we will not be able to review your application prior to submission.

Do you offer housing assistance?

RVC does provide up to $1,000 for relocation, but we currently do not have a formal process to assist someone in finding housing for a fellow if they are relocating. For more information about renting in Seattle, please visit this City of Seattle page. If you do have questions or need to be pointed in the right direction, please message [email protected].org and we will do our best to provide resources and support selected fellows!
