Development Associate

Position: Development Associate
Reports to: Development Director
Location: Greater Seattle Area–we are hybrid with WFH primarily. Will be required to join in person 1-3 a month
Salary:  $51,900 to 61,900/year
Benefits: 23 days paid time off provided immediately (prorated to start date), 11 paid floating holidays, hybrid schedule,  flexible, family-friendly schedule, medical (zero-deductible HMO and PPO options), dental, short- and long-term disability, life, and AD&D insurance, with RVC covering over 90% of the costs of the insurance package. Transit Orca card available as well.

Summary of position

This position will be responsible for stewarding a portfolio of donors, coordinating fundraising activities, and providing support to the Development, Evaluation, and Communications Team. You will be successful in this position if you are excited to cultivate relationships, love to coordinate fundraising campaigns, and eager to reimagine philanthropy. 

Essential Responsibilities

Fundraising (60%)

  • Expand desired donor communities through
    • strategizing with the fundraising team to identify and report potential sources of funding,
    • stewarding relationships with existing and potential donors, 
    • re-engage lapsed donors
    • cultivating and stewarding institutional contacts, 
    • prospecting and outreaching to corporate sponsorship partners
    • collaborating on campaign-specific solicitation materials
  • Maintain and track donor/fundraising data and metrics  in our donor database (Bloomerang)
  • Note: This role asks the Development Associate to be engaging with donors on a daily basis utilizing various engagement tools, for example: email, phone correspondence, in-person meetings, house parties, etc.

Events and Outreach Coordination (30%)

  • Provide support for organizational fundraising events 
  • Participate in sponsorship recruitment for RVC events
  • Engage staff and volunteers in recruitment and fundraising activities
  • Build relationships with other fundraisers, which can include attending regular meetings, relationship building events or coordinating with others in the sector on resource sharing

General Operations (10%)

  • Collaborate with staff in making key strategic decisions affecting the future of RVC
  • Engage in deep professional development
  • Represent and attend community events and activities to ensure engagement of RVC with the communities we serve
  • Participate in staff meetings, attend community events, and otherwise contribute to strengthening the deep roots within our community, both internally and externally.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Skills required:

  • Persuasive and passionate written and verbal communications skills
  • Comfort with computers and a variety of online platforms
  • Attention to detail and record keeping
  • A track record of tailoring messages to a wide range of audiences across sectors, cultures and geographic regions and ensuring consistency of messaging across platforms
  • Strong project management skills, with ability to keep multiple projects moving forward simultaneously
  • A track record of producing effective organizational communications including website content, e-newsletters, brochures, fliers etc.

Preferred Skills (but not required):

  • Experience with training others in strategic communications and spokesperson skills

Work Structure

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $51,900 to 61,900 a year with the exact calculation to be determined by our Areas of Responsibility calculator. We believe in work-life balance and are committed to keeping the workload in alignment with the true hours worked.
