Position: Communications and Graphic Design Manager
Reports to: Hana Jang, Director of Development 
Location: Greater Seattle Area (must reside in this area, we work remotely and hybrid)
Position type: Full-time exempt
Salary:  $57,200 – $64,900/year

Summary of position

This position will be the architect of RVC’s internal and external communications, co-creating and co-building strategic communications that uplift the voices and stories of RVC staff, partner organizations, Community Impact program fellows, and the greater community. This position will be responsible for managing overall communications for RVC’s internal and external audiences, including print and electronic communications, graphic design, and cross-programmatic communications coordination. This position is part of the Development, Evaluation, and Communications team.

Essential Responsibilities

Communications Planning & Strategy (20%):

  • Work collaboratively with the Communications Strategy Lead and staff to develop and execute a communications plan consistent with the marketing goals and outreach plans for the organization. Communications efforts should uplift the fundraising and development efforts of the organization
  • Implement overall communications strategy and ensure consistent branding across all external communications
    • Copywriting and editing is an integral part of this position
  • Manage and update press list

Marketing and Content Creation (40%): 

  • Collaborate with appropriate staff to create, update, and maintain RVC promotional materials and collateral, including org-wide and programmatic one-pagers, reports, slide decks etc.
  • Create graphic design assets for development and fundraising campaigns
  • Draft messaging for donor emails, event promotion, and fundraising campaigns
  • Work with fellows, staff, and volunteers to consistently capture and share impact stories and lessons learned
  • Manage the RVC blog, ensuring staff and partners contribute high-quality writing
  • Curate content for, develop, and distribute monthly newsletter which includes announcements, partner highlights, fundraising resources, and job opportunities
  • Capture and edit video materials for development and partner-facing programs including donor thank you’s, program highlight videos, etc.
  • Develop and distribute organizational and event press releases

Website and Social Media (30%): 

  • Develop and implement RVC website, blog, and social media strategies
  • Create and maintain social media content calendar
  • Develop and post social media content to raise awareness and promote RVC
  • Update, monitor, and grow RVC’s social media presence by engaging with stakeholders through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn
  • Update and maintain website, including posting blogs, job announcements, updates of program information and page content, and making changes as requested by programs

Organizational Operations (10%)

  • These are organization-wide responsibilities. All staff hold the following responsibilities:
    • Submit and track program expenses based on RVC protocol. 
    • Collaborate with staff in making key strategic decisions affecting RVC’s future
    • Engage in deep professional development
    • Participate in staff meetings, attend community events, and otherwise contribute to strengthening the deep roots within our community, both internally and externally
    • Commitment to our mission and our values of Equity, Integrity, Community, Action, and Transformation
    • Participate in ad hoc or organizational-wide committees or workgroups. 

What we are looking for

  • A minimum of 2-4 years of direct paid or non paid labor in any or a combination of: communications, graphic design, marketing, content creation, and/or closely related work
  • Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated experience in written communication and copywriting
  • Expertise in social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn
  • Proficiencies in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or equivalent photo editing and graphic design platform
  • Proficiency with WordPress or comparable website management systems and ability to manage website content updates
  • Interest in working within a self-managing structure and unlearning traditional decision-making expectations 
  • Ability to communicate well your learning style and approach to collaborative work
  • Experience with communities of color and grassroots organizations
  • Passion for working in the nonprofit sector

Work Environment

This is a full-time, exempt position. We work 37.5 hours a week and observe standard work hours between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. We believe in work-life balance and are committed to keeping the workload in alignment with the true hours worked.  On rare occasions, we work weekends or evenings–usually for fundraising or attending partner organization’s events. 

You must reside in the Seattle area by the date of hire. RVC staff either work from home or on a hybrid schedule between home and office. Occasionally, we meet in person with staff and partners with safety guidelines in place. All RVC employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and we ask new hires to be fully vaccinated by date of hire.

Salary Structure

The final salary offerwill be dependent on experience and levels of responsibilities within RVC. Salary is calculated transparently with the final candidate using an equitable salary calculator used by RVC.

A criminal history background check will be conducted on the final candidate prior to beginning employment. A criminal background will not automatically eliminate you from consideration.

Our Hiring Process & Timeline
