First Five Years & Beyond, our Partner Organization based in South King County, provides parents with the skills, tools, and resources needed to support their children.
🤝 Is there something new that your team has been working on that you’d like folks in the community to know about?

In March of 2022, First Five Years & Beyond (FFYB) became a member of the King County Play Equity Coalition to join in the effort of increasing physical activity opportunities for youth and immigrants in King County. We are currently participating in the new Shared Learning Action Team! This is a cohort-based action team that is focused specifically on increasing and improving programming for girls, with a focus on newcomer and immigrant girls.
🤝 Is there something new and exciting (in general) that you’d like for us to highlight?
FFYB is aware of the racial, economic, and geographic disparities in access to outdoor spaces, sports, and recreation resulting in lower rates of physical activity especially among immigrants and have responded by forming our girls’ volleyball team. We currently have 12 girls signed up and attend practice every Saturday. Girls also have access to free shoes and sports bras through donations from our partner, Good Sports. There are also team trips to watch women’s sports matches!
🤝 Things you’d like the general public to be aware of?
According to the State of Play Report: Seattle-King County, only 22% of boys and 16% of girls meet the CDC’s recommendation of 60 minutes of physical activity. This is below the national average, which is 35% of boys and 18% of girls, respectively.
🤝 Is there a call to action that you’d like us to push?
One of our goals for this program is to ensure girls have access to diverse role models that promote playing sport and being a leader in the community. So, if there is any possibility for strong female athletes in Washington to meet our girls and encourage them, that would be great! Please reach out to us: [email protected]
