Michel Baños Garcia (she/her/ella), one of our amazing Operations Support Program Managers has moved away from RVC to share her knowledge, talent, and brilliance with another powerful BIPOC-led and serving organization, Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network. We will deeply miss Michel’s bright and uplifting smile, thoughtful and wise insights, and passion for community. Michel is also the life of the party, so she still gets an invite to staff gatherings 😂
RVC is still working virtually, so we don’t have many opportunities to interact with one another on a regular basis. Having the opportunity to learn more about Michel comes as a bittersweet moment to celebrate her as a whole human being. Keep reading to celebrate Michel along with us!
🌱 What’s one thing that gets you super jazzed and ready to jump out of bed in the mornings?
I’m not a morning person. The only thing that gets me out of bed is coffee. This is a real statement.
🌱 What album has zero skips for you?
Jazmine Sullivan’s HeauxTales
🌱 What’s top of your summer playlist?
Probably something by Meg the Stallion or Karol G
🌱 What would you want to eat for your last meal? What would you want to eat for every meal?
For my last meal? Birria. But I could totally eat chicken wings in different flavors for every meal 🙂
🌱 What are some changes you want to see in your lifetime?
The fall of the 40 hour work week.
🌱 What’s on the horizon for you?
My new role at the WA Immigrant Solidarity Network and hopefully a lot of traveling and good food!
🌱 What are some things you’ll miss about RVC?
The Operations Support Program Squad meetings. A lot of fun and chaotic but productive energy.
🌱 Are there things that you won’t miss about RVC?
Chasing down missing receipts
🌱 Advice for future generations? Future fellows? Future RVC staff?
Don’t be afraid to say no and hold boundaries so you can care for yourself in trying to care for others.
🌱 Any closing remarks?
I’m appreciative of the relationships I’ve built with the people I’ve worked with at RVC, both internally and externally. I’ve learned a lot, I’ve grown a lot. And my work at RVC is what makes me feel ready to take on this new chapter!
P.S. We’re currently hiring for Michel’s position, so if you’re interested, 😉 https://rvcseattle.org/about/careers/operations-support-program-manager/
