You have certainly heard about the terrible events in the news recently. From Paris to Beirut to Mali and most recently, San Bernardino, CA, human tragedies affect us all. As a father of a two-year-old, with another baby boy arriving in March, I’ve been thinking a lot about what sort of community I want my sons to grow up in—one that’s safe, and connected, where neighbors look out for one another, where everyone’s heritage and unique experiences are seen as strengths. This is why I am so proud to be involved in building Rainier Valley Corps (RVC), and why I am so grateful for your support.
Three months ago, with your help, RVC launched our first cohort of ten fellows, guided by the question “What kind of leaders do we need in this time and place?” The fellows that we have in our first year are amazing, brilliant, passionate, and dedicated to building on the strengths of our diverse communities. (They are also awesome singers!) Together, we are building the kind of world that we want to see.
In the short time since we launched, I have already seen some inspiring results. Supported by our fellows, Rainier Valley’s community-based organizations are providing more services and serving more neighbors. Diverse communities are talking to one another more often, discussing common challenges and goals and ways to collaborate. RVC’s vision is for all our diverse communities have the resources and leadership they need to grow and to work together to create policies and systems that would benefit us all.
You—our volunteers, donors, and supporters— have made it possible to find and support the leaders that we need, leaders who believe in our neighborhood, who understand that we are all connected to one another, and who have faith in our ability to stand as a community.
And this work cannot continue to happen without you. Your support and encouragement this past year have been instrumental to RVC’s successful launch of our fellowship program. But there is still so much work to do. RVC is still in its second year of operations, and we must build infrastructure while piloting our leadership model. Donate today by filling out the form below. Your gift will ensure our fellows and community-based organizations have the resources they need to build a community that we all deserve.
Thank you.
